Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Sutherland scores in 3-1 loss to Tufts

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Scoring his second goal of the season, Connor Sutherland '27 led the Wesleyan men's ice hockey team in a 3-1 loss to Tufts University on Saturday afternoon from Wesleyan's Spurrier-Snyder Arena.

Starting goaltender Erik Voloshin '24 was a pillar through the entirety of the game for the Cardinals (4-10-1 overall, 3-6-1 NESCAC), making 33 saves in net. But Voloshin came up big at the end of the second period when Marcus Sang rushed the ice on a breakaway attempt. Voloshin skated out of the crease to make the first stop but Sang caught the rebounded puck and took another shot that sent Voloshin back on a diving save attempt that deflected the puck up and out of play.

The Jumbos (9-5-2 overall, 6-3-1 NESCAC) opened the scoring at 12:14 of the first period with a goal by Tyler Sedlak. The Jumbos took a two-goal lead in the second period with Max Resnick scoring a goal on top of his assist on Sedlak's goal.

Sutherland's goal just 20 seconds into the third period propelled the Cardinals momentum to start the final period. Tufts won the opening faceoff of the period, sending the puck briefly into the Cardinals own zone but Sutherland was able to pick the puck off at center ice before delivering it down and center of Jumbos goaltender Peyton Durand, going up and over the goaltender's blocker.

Clark Bolin put away the final goal of the game for the Jumbos at 12:18 to finish off the game.

Jack Kane '25 and Kyle Anderson '24 each had four shots on goal to lead the Cardinals offensive push. DJ Dixon '24 won 16 draws off the faceoff, leading all Cardinals with Jeremy Abraham '24 just behind him with five draw wins.

At the opposite end of the ice, Durand finished the afternoon with 30 saves for the Jumbos.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 23, when they host Albertus Magnus in non-conference action beginning at 4 p.m.
