Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Cardinals fall to No. 3 Amherst, 3-1

AMHERST, MA. – Facing No. 3 Amherst College on the road, the Wesleyan women's hockey team fell 3-1 on Saturday afternoon from Amherst's Orr Rink. Jenna Stevens '24 scored her fourth goal of the season and is tied with Dylan Green for third on the team in goals.

Ranked No. 3 in the nation, the Mammoths (12-1-2 overall, 6-1-2 NESCAC) struck first to open the scoring, posting the first goal at 8:39. Mary Thompson manages the pick at the blueline, bringing the puck all the way in from the far boards before backhanding it underneath Wesleyan goaltender Rei Halloran '23.

The Mammoths took a two-goal lead at 5:01 of the first after the Cardinals (7-6-2 overall, 2-4-1 NESCAC) were called for a cross-checking minor, setting the Mammoths up for their power play goal. The Mammoths won the faceoff before a quick back and forth pass at the line ended in Gretchan Dann making the initial shot from out top of the left circle, Emily Hohmann deflecting it back for Natalie Fu.

Both teams would be held scoreless through the second period before Stevens would score for the Cardinals in the third period. At 8:54 Stevens brings the puck in on her own, taking the first shot out left of the goal and regaining her own rebound for another attempt at the right post unassisted.

With less than three minutes in regulation, Alyssa Xu scored the third and final goal for the Mammoths to secure the 3-1 win.

Isabelle Allieri '25 finished the afternoon with a team-leading six shots on goal. From the faceoff circle, Amelia Molin '27 and Caroline Kee '26 each won five draws.

In goal, Halloran made 30 saves for the Cardinals. At the other end of the ice, Natalie Stott made 25 saves for the Mammoths.

The Cardinals return to action on Sunday, Jan. 21, when they play Amherst again in the second game of the weekend series beginning at 3 p.m.
