SPRINGFIELD, MA. – As four separate swimmers took home first-place finishes, the Wesleyan women's swimming and diving team was led by
Izzy Paez '26 who won the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events. Wesleyan beat Roger Williams University 221-67 but fell to Springfield College 158-148 at Springfield's Art Linkletter Natatorium. Wesleyan had 36 Top 5 finishes on the afternoon.
RESULTS
Paez's first win came in the 200-yard butterfly where she finished with a final 2:11.57. Later in the afternoon Paez swam a 59.77 in the 100-yard butterfly for her second win of the day. In the 100-yard freestyle Paez placed fourth at 57.27.
Izzy Pennington '24 won the 100-yard backstroke, clocking a 1:01.03 time. Pennington also placed second in the longer 200-yard backstroke event. Swimming a final 2:11.03,
Mia Dezelic '27won the 200-yard backstroke, beating out Pennington. Dezelic was also second in the 200-yard individual medley, swimming a 2:14.64.
With the final first-place finish,
Olivia Stevenson '25 won the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 5:27.08. Stevenson placed second in the 1,650-yard freestyle distance event with a 18:53.44. Stevenson also finished behind Dezelic in the 200-yard individual medley with a fifth-place finish at 2:22.30.
Picking up two second-place finishes,
Zoe Kuhn '26 swam a 1:59.06 in the 200-yard freestyle and a 55.58 in the 100-yard freestyle.
Elena Baird '26 placed second to Stevenson in the 500-yard freestyle, following with a 5:31.51. Baird also swam a final 19:11.52 in the 1,650-yard freestyle for fourth place.
Placing third in the 100-yard backstroke,
Victoria Carroll '24 clocked a 1:02.22. Carrol then swam a 1:02.26 in the 100-yard butterfly for fifth place.
Anne Conway '26 took third in the 50-yard freestyle at 26.02 and another finish at third in the 100-yard butterfly with a 1:02.04.
In the 200-yard freestyle,
Bella Kellner '24 took fourth with a 2:04.60. Kellner then took fifth in the 50-yard freestyle at 26.17. Sarah Bohacek '26 placed fourth with a final 1:11.45 in the 100-yard breaststroke finished in fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:37.18.
Maya Milrod '24 swam a 2:22.24 in the 200-yard butterfly for fourth place and took fifth in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:51.61. Another fourth-place finish was
Lydia Brutvan '25 in the 200-yard backstroke, swimming a 2:15.20 and 2:19.11 in the 200-yard individual medley for a second fourth-place finish. In the 200-yard breaststroke,
Sadie Woodruff '26 took fourth with a final 2:36.70.
Rounding the scoring for the Cardinals in the 100-yard breaststroke,
Nora Bootchk '26 placed fifth with a time of 1:12.52.
In the 200-yard medley relay, a combined team of Dezelic, Bohacek, Paez, and Pennington placed second with a final time of 1:52.28. In third was the team of Carroll, Conway, Bootchk, and Kuhn, swimming a 1:53.30. Coming in second in the 200-yard freestyle relay, Pennington, Kellner, Dezelic, and Kuhn swam a 1:39.74. In third, Conway, Bohacek, Jaydn George '25, and
Eloise Lavacek '24 combined for a 1:44.68.
On the diving boards,
Stella Oman '26 placed fourth in 3-meter with a score of 192.60.
Sophie Taubman '25 placed fifth with a score of 178.35. On the 1-meter, Oman placed third with a 306.25 and Taubman was fifth with a 315.91.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Jan. 27, when they host Colby in NESCAC action at the Webster Family Natatorium beginning at 2 p.m.
