MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Even in defeat, the Wesleyan men's squash team gave No. 18 ranked Amherst all they could handle as the Cardinals won at least one set off the Mammoths in eight of the 10 matches played on Tuesday night, but could only muster one win as Amherst walked away with an 8-1 win.
Zack Idinopulos '26 prevailed in an epic five-setter at #8, as the sophomore won the second and third sets by a score of 12-10 and ultimately prevailed via a 11-7 fifth set win over Robert Avram.
Wesleyan won a set in five other matches with
Dhairya Shah '27 winning the most points in defeat as the first-year lost to Grady Herbert 7-11, 11-9, 12-14, 9-11 at #4.
Abhinav Gupta '25 also posed a great challenge in his match at #2, falling to Abhimanyu Gupta 12-14, 3-11, 11-9, 6-11.
Toby Goldston '24 managed to take a set win at #1, as did
Morgan Shatzman '25 at #6,
Cole Zetterquist at #7, and
Jack Lungstrum '25 at #9.
Sumer Singh Ahluwalia '27 won the #10 match in a 3-0 sweep of William Atkinson 11-9, 11-7, 11-3.
The Cardinals host No. 25 Bates on Saturday at 1 PM in what is the final home match of the season for Wesleyan.
