MIDDLETOWN, CT. – The Wesleyan men's squash team put up a fight against No. 25 Bates College on Saturday afternoon, falling just short of the nationally ranked NESCAC opponent 5-4 from Wesleyan's Rosenbaum Squash Center
Toby Goldston '24, in the No. 2 spot, picked off a 3-2 match win, going five games against Bates' Labeeb Ali. Ali won the first game of the match, 11-7, but Goldtson was able to rally back with an 11-6 win. Ali took game three 11-5 but games four and five went to Goldston, winning game four 11-7 and game five 12-10.
At No. 5,
Dhairya Shah '27 defeated Harris Ramlee 3-2 as their match also went five games. Shah won the opening game 16-14 but would fall in games two and three, 11-9 and 11-4. Coming back in the fourth, Shah cleared an 11-9 win and sealed the match with a final 11-4 game win.
With another 3-2 match win,
Cole Zetterquist '24 beat Theordore Koenigsbauer 3-2 at No. 8 as he took the first two games of the match 11-5 and 11-9. Koenigsbauer claimed games three and four 11-9 and 11-5 but Zetterquist pulled through with the winning 11-3 victory.
The final match win of the night for the Cardinals went to
Zack Idinopulos '26, taking home another 3-2 match win against Bates' Philip Han. Han took an early lead, beating Idinopulos 11-0 and 11-9 in games one and two. Idinopulos' comeback earned him the win, going 11-9, 11-8, and 11-2.
The Cardinals return to action on Sunday, Jan. 28, in their final matchup of the regular season against No. 11 Williams at 5 p.m. in Williamstown.
