Women’s Ice Hockey Falls to Williams, 4-3

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. – Lead by sophomore forward Dylan Green, the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team fell in NESCAC action to Williams College, 4-3, on Friday evening from Williams' Lansing Chapman Rink in the first of a two-game weekend series.

Green notched the first goal of the evening for the Cardinals (4-4-1 overall, 1-2-0 NESCAC), opening the scoring just five and a half minutes into action. Green, keeping puck possession at the Ephs' (5-3-1 overall, 4-1-0 NESCAC) blue line, found Sam DeLeo '25 out above the left face-off circle before DeLeo made the pass back to Green for a low center shot on Ephs' goaltender Erin Pye.

The Ephs responded quickly, rebounding from the Cardinals early lead with a goal two minutes later. Scored by Christina Halloran, Chloe Noxon took the initial shot on Cardinals' goaltender Rei Halloran, the puck bouncing out left for Christina Halloran to stuff the rebound. Rei Halloran '23 made a diving save but the puck was already across the line.

Entering the second period tied up at one, the Ephs took a lead less than a minute into the period on a goal by Noxon as the Ephs had the man advantage on a late penalty on the Cardinals that rolled over from the first period.

Joyce Sun '24 tied the game up for the Cardinals at two at 16:26 of the final period of the game. Shannon Burke '25 won the face-off that set up the goal, Beats Tura '27 and Aiko Sims '26 earned the assists as they fed the play out to Sun. At 13:56 Caroline Kee '26 found the back of the net to give the Cardinals the one goal lead, taking her own face-off on the play. Tura and Caroline Mezias '25 picked up assists. Ephs' Quinn Dawson tied the game up again at three just 16 seconds later while Noxon scored her second of the night with the game winner at 8:37.

Kee lead the Cardinals off the face-off, winning 10 draws with Jenna Rekoske '24 following with seven.

Halloran made 35 saves in goal for the Cardinals. Pye finished with 34 saves.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Jan. 6, they compete with Williams again in the second game of the weekend series beginning at 2 p.m.
