Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Tournas’ shoulder Cardinals in 2-2 draw at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. – In the second of a two-game away series for the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team, sisters Effie Tournas '25 and Christina Tournas '25 posted both goals in a 2-2 draw with Williams College in NESCAC action on Saturday afternoon from Williams' Lansing Chapman Rink.

It only took 54 seconds of opening game play for Effie Tournas to light up the goal and get the Cardinals on the board first. Ephs forward Lucie Bond lost the puck in the Cardinals zone, allowing Tournas to snag the puck and rush the Ephs defensive zone. Taking the wrist shot from the right faceoff circle, Tournas' puck ricocheted off the left post and behind Ephs goaltender Erin Pye.

The Cardinals held the Ephs scoreless for the remainder of the first period and into the second period, but at 18:11 Claire DeVries tied the game up at one. The Ephs won the faceoff that kickstarted the play, sending the puck back out to DeVries just inside the blue line for a heavy shot that went over Rei Halloran's '23 shoulder. Leah Rubinshteyn's goal at 16:11 put the Ephs up by one goal after the Ephs again won the faceoff and passed the puck out to Quinn Dawson above the right circle. Dawson made an initial shot, Halloran getting a piece of it before Rubinshteyn rebounded at the left post.

The second game-tying goal for the Cardinals came by way of Christina Tournas in the third period at 16:07. Brigitte Goeler-Slough '23, out left of the goal, sent a cross pass to Mairead Kennedy '24 who took the first shot on Pye but Tournas grabbed the rebound out center and sent the puck over Pye's shoulder.

With no game winner to close out regulation, both teams went to a five-minute overtime period. Unable to produce a goal by either side, the contest ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Cardinals outshot the Ephs on goal 42-35. The faceoff wins and losses were even at 30 apiece. Jenna Rekoske '24, Amelia Molin '27, and Caroline Kee '26 all won nine draws.

In goal, Halloran finished the afternoon with 32 saves. Pye made 40 saves in net for the Ephs.

The Cardinals hit the road again on Monday, Jan. 8, when they travel to Manhattanville College for a 3 p.m. non-conference matchup.
