No. 23 Cardinals Shutout Hartford at Home, 1-0

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – The Wesleyan women's soccer team entered the national rankings this week, debuting at No. 23 prior to tonight's non-conference shutout of the University of Hartford, 1-0, at Jackson Field.

The 7-0-1 Cardinals (3-0-1 NESCAC) came away with the one goal shutout but were held without a goal until the second half. The Hawks (4-3-2 overall) kept a close edge on the Cardinals, allowing only six shots through the first 45 minutes, matching the shot count with their own offensive expertise.

Juliette Sullivan's '27 first goal of the season was the game winner that put the Cardinals over the top. In the 66th minute, as the Cardinals were charging the Hawks' defensive zone from the midfield, Riley Buehler '26 settled a high ball at the near line as it fell from a high pass over the goal. Buehler's cross pass found Katie O'Connell '25 on the opposite end of the box before it fell to Sullivan at the line. A quick boot from the sophomore had the ball in the left corner of the goal.

In goal for the Cardinals, Molly Brumbach '26 earns the win with her fourth shutout on the season. Brumbach finished the game with five saves. Sejal Johnson finished the afternoon for the Hawks with three saves in net.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Oct. 5, when they travel to No. 2 Amherst for a 12 p.m. NESCAC kickoff.
