Soloveychik is Crowned ITA Cup Singles National Champion

Box Score ROME, Ga. – As one of four members of the Wesleyan women's tennis team to qualify for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Cup tournament in Rome, Georgia over the weekend, Jackie Soloveychik '27 was named the 2024 Singles National Champion after defeating the University of Chicago's Clara Zou on Sunday morning, becoming just the second Wesleyan women's tennis player to win the fall tournament's national title.

Coming off a title win at the ITA New England Regional tournament on Sept. 22, the 2024 NESCAC Rookie of the Year joined elite company once again as her title win placed her next to Eudice Chong '18 as the only Cardinals to ever win the ITA Cup and the first to win since Chong's 2017 tournament run.

Soloveychik, entering the tournament as the third seeded player in the main singles draw, held Zou to two sets as she came away victorious with a final 6-1, 6-3 score. On her way to the final round, Soloveychik first saw NYU's Jimena Menendez in the quarterfinal round, coming away with a 6-3, 6-1 win. Williams' Erika Ekstrand had Soloveychik down in the first set of the semifinals, but a quick regroup saw Soloveychik come back in sets two and three and entered the finals with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 score.

Three more Cardinals qualified for ITA Cup competition as Soloveychik was joined by teammates Renna Mohsen-Breen '25, Lane Durkin '27, and Natalia Leroy '28. Mohsen-Breen and Durkin were seeded second for the doubles draw competition but fell in in the round of 16 to Pacific University's Cassidy Binder and Stella Nishimnura, 4-6, 7-5 (8-10). The pair entered a consolation bracket, defeating Skidmore's Konika Dhull and Grace Truong, 6-1, 6-3. In the semifinal, they beat Molly Austin of Allison Szalay from Gustavus Adolphus, 7-5, 6-3. A finals round match was not played out.

Making her ITA debut, Leroy was paired with Soloveychik for doubles play. Leroy and Soloveychik came away with a win over Trinity University's Ruth Hill and Olivia Kim, 7-5, 6-4. Reaching the quarterfinal of the main draw, the pair's weekend came to an end at the hands of Washington University's Caitlin Bui and Eleanor Archer, 0-6, 2-6.

The Cardinals' next outing will be the ITA Indoor Championships in Memphis, TN., Feb. 28 through March 2.
