NEW LONDON, CT. – Unbeaten at 12-0-3, the now No. 4 Wesleyan women's soccer team jumped three spots in the national rankings to close the regular season as they drew 1-1 with Connecticut College on Tuesday evening, allowing only one shot in 90 minutes, in a NESCAC matchup at Connecticut's Silfen Field.
The Cardinals (12-0-3 overall, 7-0-3 NESCAC) close a historic regular season as they best 2021's 14-game unbeaten streak, setting a new program record at 15 and beyond. Now ranked fourth in the nation as the top seed in the NESCAC, the Cardinals reach the highest ranking in program history for the second time as they opened 2022 ranked fourth.
Pressuring from the start, the Cardinals pushed Camels (5-8-2 overall, 2-6-2 NESCAC) goaltender Ella Kahrl to task but Kahrl held the Cardinals without a goal until 8:50 in the first half when
Meredith Feiner '28 was able to break through on the scoring front. Feiner jumped at
Lily Jebejian's '26 corner kick attempt, sinking the header behind Kahrl for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Waverly Meyers '26 nearly sunk a goal late in the first half but was stopped at the left post and tripped up.
The Cardinals entered the half with a one goal lead, outshooting the Camels 9-0.
The Camels opened the second half looking to catch a break, pushing the Cardinals back into their own zone but could not register a shot. The Cardinals defense, led by
Tori Rideau-Winds '26, did not allow the Camels any closer than the six-yard goal box for much of the game. Despite the push, the Cardinals dominated in front of Kahrl but could not pick up another goal.
Tying the game up at one, the Camels finally struck at 75:30 with their one and only shot of the game. Mae Mastrullo beat
Sheridan Snow '28 on the rush and dropped a shot at the right post, the ball squeezing between
Molly Brumbach's '26 fingers and the goal post. The Camels were held without another point for the remaining 15 minutes of regulation.
As the Cardinals outshot the Camels in a final 17-1 ratio, Brumbach in goal finished the night with no saves. Brumbach closes the regular season with a career-best 10-0-3 record. Brumbach leads the NESCAC with eight shutouts and ranks second in goals against average (.400) and saves (.904). In the opposite goal, Kahrl was the star of the game for the Camels, making eight saves on nine shots on goal.
Having clinched the top seed in the NESCAC, the Cardinals will host Conn. at home on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Jackson Field.
