Two-Goal Nights from Galdenzi and Adams Power No. 12 Field Hockey Past Trinity, 4-1

Cardinals defeat the Bantams for the first time in Hartford since 2005

HARTFORD, Conn. – Both Ava Galdenzi '24 and Georgia Adams '26 recorded two-goal nights, leading the No. 12 ranked Wesleyan field hockey team past Trinity in a 4-1 road win on Wednesday night from Sheppard Field. Wesleyan (8-3, 3-3 NESCAC) get back to winning ways, earning their first road win over the Bantams (4-5, 0-5 NESCAC) since 2005.

Wesleyan dominated play from the jump, holding Trinity without a shot attempt or penalty corner in the first quarter. Adams scored her first of the night off a penalty corner as Imani Ochieng '25 had her shot attempt deflected by Annabel Cincotta '25 to the far post where Adams was waiting to slide to swack the ball out of mid-air on her backhand to put the Cardinals up 1-0.

Heavy offensive pressure continued into the second quarter where the Cardinals attempted eight shots compared to just two for the Bantams. After seeing the first seven shot attempts either blocked or saved by Trinity goalkeeper Sydney Korkosz, the Cardinals capitalized with Galdenzi's first goal of the season. Reclaiming possession deep in Trinity's end of the field, Teddy Tolbert '28 passed to Galdenzi who took one touch past the Bantam defender before beating Korkosz to the goalkeeper's right.

Just under three minutes into the third quarter, Galdenzi made it 3-0 Cardinals as a lovely bit of stick work saw the graduate forward carry into the Trinity circle, past a couple Bantam defenders. With one more player to beat, Galdenzi dribbled past the field player and her shot beat goalkeeper substitute Hayley Gable.

Adams put the game away with her second of the night and ninth of the season, scoring 2:46 into the fourth off a penalty corner. Sydney Cameron '26 inserted right to Adams at the far wing who lined up a shot that was deflected by a Trinity player in front and past Gable in net to make it 4-0 Wesleyan.

Trinity denied Wesleyan of a shutout win with a goal from Tatum Stickney with 1:15 remaining. Izzy Deveney wound up on a penalty corner and saw the ball deflected in by Stickney to account for the Bantam goal.

Galdenzi's first two goals of the 2024 season represent her third career multi-goal game. The two-goal night is the seventh in Adams' career. Tolbert recorded her first career assist while Cincotta's assist on the first Adams goal is her third of the year.

Wesleyan outshot Trinity 21-9 overall and by a 17-3 margin through the first three quarters. Audrey Pace '26 picked up her eighth win in net and with her teammates controlling possession throughout, the junior goalkeeper was forced into making just one save in nearly 38 minutes of action. Athena Vadnal '25 entered in the third quarter and made one save in her 17+ minutes. Caroline Chung '28 finished off the last 5+ minutes and made two saves.

Kiernan McColgan '26 and Cameron Estella '26 both recorded one defensive save in the contest with McColgan's coming in the second quarter while Estella's was in the fourth.

The Cardinals came into this meeting with a record of 3-22-1 when facing Trinity in Hartford, as this win signals just the fourth road win over the Bantams in team history. Wesleyan has now defeated Trinity in three of the past four meetings dating back to 2021.

Wesleyan shifts their focus to a huge contest on Saturday as the Cardinals play host to undefeated and No. 3 ranked Williams (9-0, 6-0 NESCAC) as the Little Three rivals face off at 11:30 AM from Hicks Field.
