MEDFORD, Mass. – Falling behind two sets to none, the Wesleyan volleyball team looked to have control of the third set before Tufts rattled off five unanswered points to win the third set 25-23 and clinch a three-set sweep (16-25, 16-25, 23-25) over the Cardinals on Friday night. Despite the loss, Wesleyan (12-10, 6-3 NESCAC) has secured a Quarterfinal home match in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament next Saturday while the Jumbos (13-10, 7-3 NESCAC) have won four of five heading into the postseason.

The Cardinal offense struggled to find their footing in this one, hitting .065 in the first set before managing just six kills with five attack errors in the second set. Tufts, meanwhile, was firing on all cylinders with 15 kills in back-to-back sets to open play, hitting nearly .300 in the process.

With Tufts leading 13-11 in the first set, the Jumbos used a 5-0 run to open a seven-point lead and never looked back, taking the opening set 25-16.

The second set saw the two sides trade extended runs, with each side rattling off a streak of four unanswered points in the early going. Tufts withstood the 4-0 Wesleyan run and answered back to make it 15-9 Jumbos and after a 3-0 run and another 4-0 scoring spree, Tufts closed out another 25-16 set win.

Wesleyan finally found some holes in the Tufts defense, hitting .237 in the third set. The Cardinals led 8-5 early, only to see the Jumbos work their way back into a 12-11 lead. Wesleyan answered right back with a 4-0 run, featuring consecutive blocks from
Bianca Gonya '25, and continued to hold a lead of at least three points until the late stages.

It was 23-20 Cardinals following another
Sophie Corbeil '28 kill, but the Jumbos closed out the match with a 5-0 scoring run that featured two kills and a block from Keller Mobley and two service aces from Ella Norris as the Jumbos completed the sweep.

Michelle Jorba '25 led the attack with seven kills on 18 attempts while
Ali Landa '26 finished with 19 assists and four kills. Gonya landed five total blocks in the match while
Elliana Moreno '27 posted a team-leading 12 digs.

Wesleyan looks to regroup and head into the playoffs with some momentum as the Cardinals travel to Bates for a 2 PM start in the regular season finale on Saturday.
