BRUNSWICK, ME. – Sophomore
Amelia Molin '27 led the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team in their season opener on the road with two goals against Bowdoin College on Friday evening in a 4-2 loss to Bowdoin in NESCAC action from Bowdoin's Sidney J. Watson Arena.
Down two goals with five minutes remaining in the first period, Molin was able to get a her first puck on net at 15:36 to cut the lead in half.
Effie Tournas '25 and
Carly Ward '27 set up the goal for Molin. Four minutes later Molin struck again for the Cardinals tying the game up at two with the Polar Bears to enter the second period.
Christina Tournas '25 and
Emma Lucchese '28 accounted for the assists on Molin's second go around.
The Bears opened the scoring on the power play less than four minutes into the game action as the Cardinals were called for checking. Anyi Sun was responsible for the power-play goal. The Bears took their early two-goal lead after Ava Imposimato was able to put a puck behind
Jenna Guglielmi '27 in goal.
Picking up the third goal for the Bears, Sun notched her second of the game in the second period to give the Bears the one goal lead. Meghan Britt closed the scoring for the Bears with two and a half minutes remaining in regulation.
Molin also lead the Cardinals from the faceoff circle, winning 11 draws on the evening.
Guglielmi made 17 saves on 21 shots faced in net for the Cardinals. Sally Solotaroff-Webber completed 29 saves for the Polar Bears in the opposite goal.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 15, for the second game of the weekend series with Bowdoin beginning at 3 p.m.
