POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Closing the opening weekend of the season with a second win, the Wesleyan men's squash team is off to a hot start as they defeat Vassar College 8-1 on Sunday afternoon from Vassar's squash courts.
In the second game of a weekend road series, the Cardinals were looking to make sure they could build off their victory over Brown on Saturday. Five of the eight matches were 3-0 sweeps for the Cardinals. At No. 6,
Morgan Shatzman '25 was the quickest match of the morning. Shatzman defeated Luke Chen with 11-7, 11-1, 11-13 game wins.
Ian Stein '27 defeated Will Knauss at No. 9, putting away 11-8, 11-9, 11-5 final game scores.
Sumer Ahluwalia '27 picked up game wins at 11-7, 11-1, and 11-13 over Patrick Looby at No. 7.
Jack Lungstrum '25 went three rounds with Grabiel Lugo at No. 5 and walked away with 11-7, 11-5, 11-6 set finals. The final sweep was
Abhinav Gupta '25 in the No. 1 spot, lifting the Cardinals to another point as he went 11-5, 11-9, 11-3 over Kostantinos Georgallides.
Several Cardinals were forced to a fourth set, but many were still able to end their matches with all three game wins.
Dhairya Shah '27 took 24 minutes to beat Jarid Haslinger after falling in the second set. Shah took game one 11-2, but Haslinger came back with a game two 11-7 win. Shah rallied back and returned the final sets 11-7, 11-4.
Preston Crawford '26 at No. 4 won the first two games 13-11, 13-11 over Matthew Okulski , but fell in the third 11-5. Crawford shut down Okulski once again to take game four 11-4. The final point of the day for the Cardinals went to
Ethan Yan '25 at No. 3. Down one game to open the match, 11-9, Yan pushed through and pulled out the last three games 11-7, 11-3, and 11-9.
The Cardinals return to the court on Saturday, Nov. 23, when they host Bard College at 12:30 p.m. at the Rosenbaum Squash Center.
