Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Three-Point Nights From Hanes, Davidson Lead Cardinals in Road Loss at Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. – Led by Hayden Hanes '27 and Ethan Davidson '26 with three-point nights, the Wesleyan men's ice hockey team fell in conference action on the road at Hamilton College, 6-3, on Saturday night from Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink. Tonight's matchup marks Davidson's second three-point night in three games.

In the race to score first, the Continentals (3-0-0 overall, 2-0-0 NESCAC) struck off the opening faceoff with just seconds dropped from the clock. With the Cardinals (0-3-0 overall, 0-3-0) unable to clear the puck, the Continentals forced a turnover deep in the Cardinals zone that gave Jackson Krock enough time to snap a pass to Luke Tchor sitting at the goal crease for the tap in.

Able to tie it up three minutes later, Hanes cut the one goal lead for the Cardinals. Driving the offense back down the ice, Davidson navigated the puck around the goal, making an initial blocked pass but rebounded and sent the puck wide to Hanes whose backhanded shot slipped behind Aksel Reid in net.

Taking back the lead to close out the first period, Ben Zimmerman's wrister from the crease on a zone attack put the Continentals back up by one.

The Continentals gave themselves a two-goal lead at 12:35 of the second period. Alex Danis angled the puck from out right of the circle, nailing the left corner of the goal under Ethan Fehrenbaker's '28 blocker. With the opportunity to cut the lead again, Davidson scored his first of the season above the crease as Hanes was directing the Cardinals' attack down from between the benches.

Hanes, scoring his second game-tying goal of the night, found the back of the net at 9:12. Davidson's cross-ice pass to Jack Bosco '26 settled at the feet of Hanes at the right post.

The final period was largely dominated by the Continentals, scoring three goals in six minutes. The first sailing behind Fehrenbaker on a delayed shot from front center, Danis' second of the game on the power play. Tchor was the final even strength goal before goal six was scored short handed on a empty Cardinals net by Noah Liebl.

Fehrenbaker finished the evening in goal with 28 total saves, 16 in the first period. In the opposite net, Reid made 23 saves for the Continentals.

The Cardinals return to action on Sunday, Nov. 24, when they travel to Amherst for a 3 p.m. NESCAC puck drop.
