NEW YORK, N.Y. – The No. 16 ranked Wesleyan men's basketball team showed no signs of rust following a nine-day break between games as the Cardinals earned a convincing 72-55 road win over Yeshiva on Monday night. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 12-0 for just the second time in team history and the first since the 1911-12 team went undefeated at 13-0. The Macs dropped to 4-5 with the defeat.
Wesleyan leaned on their defense early and often in this one, holding Yeshiva to just 24 first half points on 2-for-11 shooting from three while the Macs committed nine turnovers which led to an 18-8 advantage for the Cardinals in points off turnovers.
Shane Regan '25 went right to work, scoring eight of the first 10 points for the Cardinals, while
Zach Wolinski '28 came off the bench and hit a three that made it 13-4 Wesleyan just over five minutes into play.
Nicky Johnson '25 followed with a three of his own before Regan scored on consecutive possessions as the senior guard needed just eight minutes to hit a double-digit point total.
Regan's two makes started a 13-0 run that stretched Wesleyan's lead to 20 points in the first half.
Ben Lyttle '27 scored seven points in that run, capped by a three-pointer to make it 29-9 Cardinals with 8:15 left in the first half. Wesleyan led by as many as 22 before taking a 44-24 lead into halftime. Wesleyan shot 15-for-27 from the floor, 6-for-14 from three, and 8-for-9 from the free throw line in the first half.
The second half saw the two sides combine for just 59 points as Wesleyan led by as many as 23 while the Macs never got closer than a 17-point deficit, only until the final minutes before the final horn sounded. Lyttle and Regan combined to score 15 of Wesleyan's 28 points in the half as the Cardinals struggled shooting at 36.7 percent but held Yeshiva to just 31 points despite the Macs shooting at 50 percent.
Regan led the Cardinals with 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting while Lyttle added 17 points (5-11 FG, 3-8 3FG) with four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Wolinski scored nine points and
Fritz Hauser '26 went for eight points and four rebounds.
Wesleyan finished +10 in rebounding margin (35-25) while holding a 10-3 edge in offensive rebounds for the game.
The Cardinals return to Silloway Gymnasium for the first time since November 30 with a Little 3 non-conference showdown against Amherst at 1 PM on Saturday.
