PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – After taking an early 3-0 lead, the Wesleyan men's squash team pulled out several thrilling four and five set victories to seal a 6-3 win over Connecticut College to capture the 2024 Conroy Cup (D Division) title of the College Squash Association (CSA) Division Team Championships.
This win signals a fourth D Division championship in team history for the Cardinals. Wesleyan previously won the D Division at the CSA Team Championships in 1991, 1992, and 2017.
The first place match started with a bang for the Cardinals, who led 3-0 in the team scoring within the opening 20 minutes.
Morgan Shatzman '25 lost just eight total points in a 11-3, 11-4, 11-1 win at #7 over Peter Russell, completing the 3-0 sweep in just 14 minutes to earn his 10
th win of the season.
Cole Zetterquist '24 dominated his match at #9, defeating Timothy First 11-3, 11-2, 11-8 in 18 minutes.
Jack Lungstrum '25 was right behind, taking a 11-4, 11-6, 11-6 win over Alexander Lorenzo-Cruz at #8.
The Camels' Luis Alejandro Moncada Gonzalez got Conn. on the board in a win at #1, but
Ethan Yan '25 finished off a close four-set win at #5, winning both the third and fourth sets by a score of 11-9, giving the Cardinals a 4-1 lead and just one point away from clinching the title.
Conn. kept fighting as Hudson Dunn completed a four-set win at #2, lowering the deficit to 4-2, but it was
Toby Goldston '24 who came through for Wesleyan in his last collegiate match. Goldston and Samuel Lovejoy spilt the opening two sets at #3 before the Cardinal senior came through with 11-8 and 11-9 wins in the third and fourth sets, respectively, to seal the win for Wesleyan.
To finish off the match, the Camels earned a five-set win at #4, with Henry Pelletier dispatching
Dhairya Shah '27 in a back-and-forth match (5-11, 13-11, 8-11, 14-12, 6-11) that lasted 50 minutes. Finally,
Preston Crawford '24 finished off his career in style, earning a five-set win at #6 over Ryan Mach (11-9, 10-12, 11-13, 11-9, 11-7), coming back from 2-1 down in sets to earn the victory in 58 minutes.
