ITHACA, N.Y. – The Wesleyan wrestling team picked up a pair of wins at the Ithaca Quad Meet on Saturday, defeating Williams 26-14 and Oneonta 29-20 while suffering a 43-7 loss to the host Bombers to complete the day with a 2-1 record. The Cardinals improve to 6-4 in the dual match portion of the schedule this season after Saturday's results.
Hayden Myers '27 and
CJ Shea '25 led the Cardinals as the pair both went 3-0 on the day. Myers earned his three wins by major decision, tech fall, and pinfall while Shea picked up a pair of decision wins along with a pinfall.
Aris Dashiell '25 also performed well, going 2-0 on the day, with his wins coming in the Williams and Oneonta matches.
Opening against the Ephs, Wesleyan jumped out to a 17-0 lead as
Chris Hong '27 won by forfeit at 125 before
Max Martinez '25 landed a pinfall win in the closing seconds at 133 while Myers dominated Tylor Stubbs at 141 with an 18-3 tech fall victory. Shea added a 7-3 decision win at 157 before Williams closed the gap with wins at 165 and 174, making it 20-11 Wesleyan with three bouts remaining.
Needing a win to seal at least a tie in the team scoring, Dashiell earned a crucial three points by way of a sudden victory 11-8 decision.
Lennon Soaper '27 recorded the match-clinching win at 197 with a 2-0 triumph over Max Hall.
Wrestling against Ithaca next, the Cardinals fell victim to a powerful Bomber squad that landed six wins by pinfall in a 43-7 victory for Ithaca. The two Cardinal wins came from Myers in a dominating 10-1 major decision win at 141 as well as Shea who defeated Braden Edwards 11-4 at 157.
In the final dual of the day, Wesleyan won five and lost five bouts against Oneonta, but just one Cardinal lost by way of pinfall while the Cardinals landed four wins by pin (fifth coming via tech fall) to secure enough points for a 29-20 victory. Trailing 6-0 after the first two bouts, Wesleyan rattled off four straight pins as Myers pinned Santos Ocasio in 2:21 at 141,
Shailen Savur '25 got a pin at 1:26 against Peter Sacco, Shea landed his pin in 4:03 at 157, and
Dario Molina '24 needed 4:51 before pinning Matthew Coffey at 165. Armed with a 24-10 lead, Dashiell put the match away with a 19-1 tech fall win at 184.
The Cardinals are back in action at home next weekend with a dual match against Centenary from Bacon Field House at 1 PM.
