Cardinals Sweep the Weekend as They Down Hamilton, 9-0

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Freshman Macie Carlos '27 came away with her first singles victory of the spring season as the Wesleyan women's tennis team swept Hamilton College 9-0 in NESCAC action on Sunday morning from the Bacon Field House. This is Wesleyan's second sweep of a NESCAC opponent in a row, and their second of the weekend.

The Cardinals finished off the doubles portion of the morning with plenty of time to recoup and recover before singles competition as they took an early three-point lead heading into singles play. The No.1 pairing of Caitlyn Ferrante '24 and Sarah Youngberg '26  defeated Stephanie Pratt and Hannah Apsy with a 8-2 final score. Leila Epstein '26 and Jackie Soloveychik '27 came away with a 8-1 win over Shannon Cicero and Priyanka Challapalli. Finally, with a 8-1 win at No. 3, Renna Mohsen-Breen '25 and Lane Durkin '27 finished with the final doubles point defeating Ally Turtledove and Grace Qian.

Carlos' victory came in the No. 6 spot, filling Youngberg's spot in the singles line up as she defeated Lila Freeman, going 6-4, 6-1. At No. 1, Ferrante put off Apsy with a final 6-1, 6-3 win. Epstein defeated Challapalli, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. The eighth point of the morning went to Durking at No. 4 as she downed Qian, 6-1, 6-1. Mohsen-Breen made very quick work of Cicero in the No. 5 spot, finishing with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. The final point of the morning went to Soloveychik completing the sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Pratt.

The Cardinals head to San Antonio, TX to kick of their Spring Break trip and will next face Case Western on Tuesday, March 12, beginning at 9 a.m.
