AUSTIN, TX – The Wesleyan men's tennis team fell in non-conference action to No. 13 Swarthmore, 6-3, on Wednesday evening as they continue their Spring Break play from the Austin Tennis Center in Austin, TX.
Harry Portnoy '24 was the highlight of the match as he picked up a singles victory at No. 6 and was paired with
Max Litton '26 in a doubles match win at No. 3.
RESULTS
Portnoy and Litton came away with the Cardinals' (1-2 overall) first point of the afternoon, downing the Garnets' Aamish Pal and Max Pogorelov, 8-4. The Garnet would pick up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Winston Zhang and Andres Fente defeated
Harry Collomb '26 and
Chase Kasday '26, 8-6, and Michael Melnikov and Purushothan Koduri felled
Ben Mitchell '24 and
JT Bilski '26, 8-3.
In the No. 6 slot, Portnoy cleared Fente on his own in a 6-2, 6-1 singles win. Mitchell rallied and recovered heading into singles play at No. 3, coming away with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Zhang to finish up the point count for the Cardinals. Collomb would go three sets after winning his first set against Lalith Suresh, but Suresh quickly came back and ultimately won, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.
The Garnet finished the night with four singles win at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5, as they continue their unbeaten streak, now 8-0 on the season.
The Cardinals return to action on Friday, March 15, when they face No. 39 Concordia (Texas) in Georgetown, TX, beginning at 4 p.m.
