CLERMONT, FL. – Isabella Secaira-Cotto '25 led the way for the Wesleyan softball team as pitched her third complete game of the season and scored one of Wesleyan's two runs in a 2-0 defeat of Carleton College on a very stormy Monday morning as the game was delayed by a few lightning strikes. In game 2, Wesleyan fell to Endicott College 8-0 as they wrap up their Spring Break trip to Clermont.
Secaira-Cotto opened the scoring for the Cardinals in the bottom of the 2
nd inning, reaching first base after taking a pitch hit for the walk.
Cat Palmer's '26 ground out to short stop carried Secaira-Cotto to second base. Â As
Hannah Docktor '24 sent a double out to left field, Secaira-Cotto by-passed third base and scored on the play.
With no score through a quick third inning,
Jordynn Killion '27 scored the final run at the bottom of the 4
th inning. After Palmer and Dockter both grounded out, Killion struck a double out to center field. Killion was sent home after
Darlene De La Cruz '25 reached first on a 2
nd base error.
Secaira-Cotto earned the win, pitching all seven innings as she allowed only three hits and struck out three Knights.
The Endicott Gulls took game 2 from the Cardinals in a five-inning matchup that shut the Cardinals down to finish off the day.
Taking an early lead at the top of the 1
st inning, the Gulls scored four runs to open the scoring. Caroline Cummings singled to left field before Katie Watts walked, advancing Cummings to second base. Chloe Shapleigh homered to right field, all three scored. Hadley Marchand homered on the next pitch count.
Riley Gamanche scored at the top of the 5
th inning for the Gulls with Watts singling out left. Paige Berdos scored from Shapleigh's flied hit to right field. Watts and Cummings scored the final runs off Marchand's single up the middle.
Revi Brown '23 pitched three of the five innings for the Cardinals, allowing four runs and struck out two.
The Cardinals return home to Middletown to host Hamilton on Friday, March 22, in a NESCAC doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
