Cardinals go toe-to-toe with DI Quinnipiac in 4-3 defeat

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Tied up after the second set in the No. 1 singles slot, Ben Mitchell '24 pulled out a stunning third set win for the Wesleyan men's tennis team as they fell in non-conference action to NCAA Division I Quinnipiac University, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon from the John Wood Memorial Courts. Brett Keeling '27 and Max Litton '26 led the way as the pair teamed up for a doubles win after putting away their own singles wins.

Mitchell came out on top after set one, 6-4, but Daniel Velek responded with a 6-2 second set win. Forcing a third set tiebreaker, Mitchell finalized the No. 1 singles win with a final 10-8 score. At No. 2, Keeling defeated Ayato Arakaki 6-4, 6-2. The final singles matchup went to Litton at No. 4 as he cleared Carlos Braun Simo in a 6-2, 7-5 final.

The Bobcats picked up wins at No. 3, No. 5, and No.6.

Keeling and Litton downed Gaurav Mootha and Arakaki 6-4 in the No. 3 doubles slot in the second to last doubles match to finish. Finn Burridge and Donovan Brown defeated Harry Portnoy '24 and Harry Collomb '26 6-3 at No. 2 and Velek and Shaurya Sood beat Mitchell and Chase Kasday '26 in the No. 1 spot, 6-4.

The Cardinals return to action on Friday, March 22, when they head to No. 24 MIT for a 3:30 p.m. start in Cambridge, MA.
