Women's Golf Breaks Multiple Team Records in Weekend Tournaments at Vassar

Cardinals break the team weekend low stroke total twice, Mia Bardinelli '26 shoots the lowest weekend stroke total in team history

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - It was a record-setting weekend for the Wesleyan women's golf team as the Cardinals broke the single-day team stroke total twice and saw Mia Bardinelli '26 turn in the lowest weekend stroke total in team history at the Vassar Invitational I and II. The Cardinals finished in second place on both Saturday and Sunday, finishing behind only Wellesley in both competitions.

The Vassar Invitational opened on Saturday with Wesleyan carding a +19 (307) as a team, setting a new record-low mark. Maggie Monaghan '24 turned in a +3 (75) while Mia Holbrook '27 went for a +4 (76) and Bardinelli carded a +5 (77). All three Cardinals placed Top 10 in the player leaderboard, with Monaghan placing fifth, Holbrook sixth, and Bardinelli seventh.

Rounding out the field for Wesleyan on Saturday was Chanel Hong '26 who finished with a +7 (79) and in a tie for 11th place while Kayla Howell '26 carded a +8 (80) to finish in a tie for 13th place. Competing as an individual, Cecilia Roegner '27 shot a +11 (83) which was good enough for a tie for 17th place in a field of 35 golfers.

Wesleyan followed with another resounding performance on Sunday as the Cardinals shot a combined +17 (305), breaking the single-day school record stroke total for the second straight day.

Bardinelli made history with her +1 (73) on Sunday in the Vassar Invitational II, giving her a team record-setting weekend stroke total of 150, breaking the previous mark of 151 set by Danielle Landis '25 at the 2021 Williams Invitational, a tournament that Landis medaled in as she topped the player field for that event.

Holbrook went low again, scoring +3 (75) as she tied the previous two-day stroke total team record with a 151 for the weekend. Howell improved four strokes from her Saturday total, finishing with a +4 (76) on Sunday for the third-best score on the team.

Monaghan shot +9 (81) on Sunday while Hong carded a +11 (83) to finish off the scoring for Wesleyan. Roegner, who again was competing as an individual, finished with a +8 (80).

The Cardinals are back in action on April 13-14 with a trip to Cortland, New York for the Martin & Wallace Invitational hosted by SUNY Cortland at the Cortland Country Club.
