CLINTON, N.Y. – The Wesleyan baseball team held a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 3
rd inning but the Continentals scored 12 unanswered runs to earn a 15-5 win over the Cardinals on Friday night in NESCAC West Division play. The Cardinals (16-5, 4-3 NESCAC West) lose their second straight league game while Hamilton (8-11, 2-5 NESCAC West) sees their six-game losing streak come to an end.
Wesleyan scored the first run of the game in the 2
nd on a
Luke LaSaracina '25 fielder's choice out and plated three more in the top of the 3
rd as the only hit of the inning was a two-run bomb to left field from
Connor Sullivan '26. The first home run of Sullivan's career gave the Cardinals a 4-0 lead.
After keeping quiet for the first two innings, Hamilton's bats came alive in the 3
rd as Charlie O'Brien lifted a solo shot to left center before Shane Dux ripped a two-run double that cut the deficit to 4-3 after three innings.
The Cardinals had two runners in scoring position with two outs in the 4
th, but
Ernie Little '26 popped out to short and the Continentals capitalized with a four-run bottom half to take a 7-4 lead. An early error in the inning proved costly as all four Hamilton runs in the frame were unearned. Greg Kopp singled up the middle with two outs to score one and Taylor Kaufman homered down the left field line for a three-run shot.
Another big inning put Hamilton ahead by seven as another O'Brien homer, this time a three-run bomb to right center, made it 11-4 Continentals.
Hamilton lifted two more home runs out of the park before the end of the game, finishing the contest with five in total.
Wesleyan looks to rebound on Saturday with a doubleheader against the Continentals slated to begin at Noon.
