No. 4 Cardinals handle No. 12 Middlebury, 7-2

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Collecting their 12th victory of the season as they remain at the top of the NESCAC, No. 4 Wesleyan women's tennis team saw to No. 12 Middlebury College on Sunday afternoon, picking up a 7-2 NESCAC victory with a clean sweep of doubles play from the Bacon Field House.

Sarah Youngberg '26 and Caitlyn Ferrante '24 claimed the first win of the afternoon for the Cardinals (12-0 overall, 7-0 NESCAC) as the No. 1 doubles pairing, defeating Sahana Raman and Nathalie van derReis with a quick 8-1 win. Jackie Soloveychik '27 and Leila Epstein '26 secured a win at No. 2 doubles as they came away with a final 8-3 score over Claudia Miller and Gena Huang.

The Cardinals No. 3 doubles pairing of Lane Durkin '27 and Renna Mohsen-Breen '25 claimed their 12th straight victory as they continue their undefeated tear, locking up a 8-4 final score over Lulu Wu and Nina Farhat.

Mohsen-Breen's domination this season has not just been reserved for doubles play. In the No. 6 position, Mohsen-Breen locked up her 12th win in a row over van derReis as the first singles point of the match in a 6-2, 6-4 victory.

Ferrante beat Raman at No. 1, rallying a 6-4, 7-5 win. At No. 2, Youngberg won set one, 6-1, but fell to Wu in set two as the Panther clocked a 6-3 win, forcing a third set. Youngberg rallied back, finalizing a Cardinals win with a final 6-2 third set. The final point of the match went to Leila Epstein as the Cardinals No. 3 singles player, defeating Claudia Miller in three sets, 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 10-7.

The Panthers claimed points at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, April 20, when they head to Bowdoin for a 10 a.m. NESCAC matchup.
