Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

No. 14 Men’s Lacrosse Uses 10-0 Run to Ease Past Springfield from Jackson Field

Cardinals have won five straight meetings against the Pride

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – An offensive barrage, featuring 10 unanswered goals in just under 13 minutes of play, was more than enough to send No. 14 Wesleyan men's lacrosse past Springfield in a 21-8 win on Wednesday afternoon. This was the first game played on Jackson Field this season for the Cardinals (10-3) while the Pride (4-9) see their four-game win streak come to an end.

There were plenty of goals to go around as the Cardinal attack was firing on all cylinders in this one. Wesleyan featured six different goal scorers in the first quarter alone, leading 7-2 heading into the second. Jack Raba '23 dished out assists on three of the seven Cardinal goals in the opening quarter while the only multi-goal scorer for Wesleyan in the frame was Alex Moynihan '24.

Finishing the first quarter on a 4-0 run, that play extended into the second where Wesleyan hit Springfield for six more unanswered goals. CK Giancola '24 scored a spinning goal with his back to cage to highlight the proceedings. Charlie Knapp '26 scored the Cardinals' first unassisted goal of the game to make it 10-2. Ben Burns '26 then scored or assisted on three straight goals to finish off the 10-0 run, giving Wesleyan a 13-2 lead midway through the second quarter.

Springfield stymied the Cardinal attack for the remainder of the first half, but couldn't get much going on offense as it was 13-4 Cardinals when a 5-1 Wesleyan run put the game away for good in the third quarter. Burns scored his fourth of the game to start the run before Raba scored back-to-back-to-back goals in a span of just 1:58 to give Wesleyan an 18-5 lead.

Wesleyan emptied the bench in the fourth quarter and the Cardinals still managed to outscore Springfield in the frame 3-2. Goals came from Gavin Lechner '27, Josh Barry '26, and Drew Ambrose '27 as the Cardinals finished off a convincing 13-goal win.

Shots favored Wesleyan 58-27 while the Cardinals committed just 13 turnovers, compared to 22 for Springfield. Wesleyan won the ground ball battle 38-21 while face offs were even (16-16) between the two sides.

Raba was heavily involved throughout, recording eight points on three goals and five assists to go along with three ground balls. Burns and Giancola both scored four goals while Dixon recorded four points (one goal, three assists). Knapp, Moynihan, and Justin Hazard '23 each scored twice.

Joe Hurton '27 led the defense with six ground balls and three caused turnovers while Emmett Schillinger '25 racked up four grounds balls and one caused turnover. Kyle Davies '24 totaled four ground balls in the fourth quarter.

Tyler Campbell '25 went 14-for-18 at the X to lead the face off unit. Conor Selfridge '26 made four saves with five goals allowed in 43:41 minutes of action to pick up the win.

Wesleyan is back in action on Saturday with a huge contest as No. 12 Bowdoin comes to Jackson Field for a 1 PM start on what is the Cardinals' Senior Day contest.
