No. 3 Women’s Lacrosse Throttles Conn. College, Heads into NESCAC Tournament Winners of Eight Straight

Cardinals earned the #2 seed for the NESCAC Tournament and will face #7 Bowdoin on Saturday in the Quarterfinal round in Middletown

NEW LONDON, Conn. – It was one-way traffic on Silfen Field this Wednesday night as the No. 3 ranked Wesleyan women's lacrosse team led 12-0 at halftime before ultimately finishing off Conn. College in a 15-5 win that sends the Cardinals (13-2, 8-2 NESCAC) into the NESCAC Tournament riding a team record eight-game win streak.

The Cardinals' 13-2 overall record and 8-2 mark in NESCAC play are both tied for the best regular season marks in team history, matching the 2019 Wesleyan squad that mirrored those same records before ultimately making a run to the NCAA Tournament national semifinal (Final Four).

Wesleyan outscored Conn. 3-0 in the first quarter, but the story of that 15-minute frame was Izzy Weintraub '26 who made saves on all six Camel shots-on-goal in the period. Weintraub went on to make one more save before departing 4:55 into the third quarter as the sophomore finished with seven saves and just one goal allowed with four ground balls in another stellar performance.

After scoring three times from nine shot attempts in the first quarter, Wesleyan made their chances count in the second quarter as the Cardinals scored nine goals off 10 shots in the frame. Outscoring Conn. 9-0 in the second quarter, the Cardinals hit the Camels with a barrage as Wesleyan scored seven goals in a span of just 6:02 minutes to make it a 10-goal deficit and initiate the running clock rule.

In that second quarter, from the Elle Priesing '26 goal that made it 5-0 with 11:09 left in the quarter until Olivia Lai '23 made it 12-0 before halftime, Wesleyan scored on eight consecutive possessions to build the massive lead.

Conn. finally broke their scoreless streak with Janet Howard finishing the back of the net 52 seconds into the second half but goals from Molly Greer '24 and Maddie Shoemaker '27 restored the 12-goal lead late on in the third. Wesleyan coasted through the third and fourth quarter, with running clock in-effect for a vast majority of the second half. Before the end of regulation, Mya Waryas '27 scored her first career goal with 18 seconds left to give Wesleyan the 15-5 win.

The Cardinals outshot Conn. 19-7 in the first half and 27-17 for the game. Wesleyan buried five of their eight free position shot attempts while Conn. went just 1-for-5 as a team.

Laura Baine '24 is just two points away from a single-season career-high as she led the Cardinals with five points (three goals, two assists) against Conn. Baine has 39 goals and 23 assists for 62 points in 15 games this season.

Kiara Tangney '25 tied her season and career-high with four points, recording two goals and two assists. Greer finished with two goals and one assist, Lai scored twice, and six other Cardinals scored one goal.

Wesleyan heads into the NESCAC Tournament as the #2 seed where a matchup against #7 Bowdoin awaits on Saturday at Noon from Smith Field. The two sides met just last Saturday in a 12-7 win for Wesleyan in Maine.
