BRUNSWICK, Me. – The Wesleyan softball team dropped both games in a Sunday doubleheader at Bowdoin. The Cardinals (15-17, 6-10 NESCAC) saw their four-game win streak coming into today snapped after defeats in game one (4-2) and game two (7-1).
Â
The Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in their first at-bats, with
Isabella Secaira-Cotto '25 coming through with a two out, two-run single back up the middle to score
Kelly Baker '26 and
Lizzie Marino '25.
Â
Bowdoin tied the score at 2 apiece in the bottom of the first, with Sydney Lang plating a pair on a two out, two run double to left center.
Â
Wesleyan threatened in the 2
nd as the first two batters reached and the bases were later loaded, but
Molly Lennon '26 popped out to second to end the inning.
Secaira-Cotto held the Polar Bears in the 2
nd, as she retired three straight batters after Bowdoin put two runners in scoring position with no one out.
Â
Bowdoin took the lead in the 3
rd, as the first four batters of the inning all reached base, leading to a pair of runs and a 4-2 lead.
Â
After seeing at least one base runner reach scoring position in each of the first three innings, Kathleen Hester and Maddie Current shut the door with a stellar pitching display, holding Wesleyan without a hit over the final four innings.
Â
Game two also started promisingly for the Cardinals, as Wesleyan loaded the bases with one out, managing to score one run on a fielder's choice RBI from Secaira-Cotto.
Â
Bowdoin, however, responded with two runs in the bottom of the 1
st and the Polar Bears batted around in the 2
nd, building a 7-1 lead with a five-run inning.
Â
Wesleyan didn't have an answer for the Bowdoin pitchers, with Anna Halliday and Maddie Current combining to allow just four hits with two walks in the seven-inning contest.
Â
Ella DeCrescenzo '27 pitched well in relief in game two, throwing 4.2 innings with just one run allowed on seven hits, no walks, and two strikeouts.
Â
The Cardinals are back on the road again in the final week of the regular season, with trips to Westfield State on Tuesday and Williams on Saturday.
