WESTFIELD, Mass. – Isabella Secaira-Cotto '25 produced at the plate and on the circle for the Wesleyan softball team, leading the Cardinals to a 5-3 game one victory in a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader split at Westfield State. Wesleyan (16-18) dropped game two 4-1 to the Owls (24-11-1).
 
Secaira-Cotto's monster game one saw the junior go 3-for-3 at the plate with one home run, one double, 4 RBI, one run scored, and one hit by pitch. Her three-run home run in the 3^rd gave Wesleyan a 5-1 lead and her pitching did the rest. Throwing all seven innings in the circle, Secaira-Cotto allowed just three runs (two earned) with three strikeouts to pick up her ninth win of the season.
 
The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the 1^st inning. With runners on second and third, Molly Lennon '26 came through with an RBI fielder's choice and with two outs, Secaira-Cotto slapped an RBI double through the left side to make it 2-0 Wesleyan.
 
The Owls got one run back in the 2^nd inning but Secaira-Cotto helped her own cause with a towering three-run home run that fly about five feet inside the left field foul pole. That bomb represented her second homer of the season.
 
Secaira-Cotto continued to battle, holding Westfield without a run and leaving two runners on for the third straight inning. After leaving another two runners on in the 5^th inning, Secaira-Cotto ran into some trouble in the 7^th as Westfield's Alyssa Clark singled to left that scored one on a throwing error. On the next at-bat, Abby Clark knocked an RBI double to left to make it 5-3 Cardinals. With the game-tying run at the plate, Secaira-Cotto finished the job, inducing a ground out to third to seal the Wesleyan victory.
 
Wesleyan's bats fell victim to a tremendous pitching display in game two, as Katherine Canty and Stephanie Scoville combined to allow just five hits with one unearned run in the 5-1 win.
 
The Cardinals again plated the first run of the game, as Rebecca Cassel-Siskind '26 ripped an RBI triple to left center, which scored Waverly Smart '27 all the way from first.
 
Ella DeCrescenzo '27 worked a perfect 1^st inning in the circle for Wesleyan and left two runners on in the 2^nd, but the 3^rd inning saw Westfield's Hannah Wodecki hit a two-run shot over the left field fence and Abby Clark came through with an RBI triple to right center that made it 4-1 Owls.
 
Kelly Baker '26 came on for DeCrescenzo to finish off the 3^rd inning and went on to throw three more scoreless frames in relief, keeping the Cardinals alive. However, with hits at a premium, the Cardinals managed just one runner in scoring position over the final four innings in the 4-1 defeat.
 
Cassel-Siskind went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI in game two, combined with a 2-for-3 outing in game one gave her four hits on the day. Secaira-Cotto singled in game two to give her four hits in a 4-for-6 combined effort in the doubleheader.
 
Wesleyan is back on the road on Saturday for the regular season finale in a doubleheader at Williams. One win over the Ephs would guarantee the Cardinals a spot in the 2024 NESCAC Tournament.
