ST. LOUIS, MO. – The No. 1 doubles pairing for the Wesleyan women's tennis team,
Caitlyn Ferrante '24 and
Sarah Youngberg '26, earned semifinalist recognition at the NCAA Individual Championships as their run came to an end against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Monday afternoon, also earning All-American honors in the process from the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
Ferrante and Youngberg went 19-7 this season in the No.1 doubles slot for the Cardinals. The last doubles team to earn NCAA All-American honors was
Kristina Yu '22 and Victoria Yu '19 in June of 2019.
Ferrante, who has already earned All-American honors this season, and Youngberg faced the Athenas' Nikolina Batoshvili and Alisha Chulani in the semifinal round of the individual doubles tournament. Both pairings matched up in the team semifinal round on May 21 as the Cardinals knocked the Athenas from National Championship contention.
Batoshvili and Chulani took an early lead, taking set one, but the Cardinals downed them in set two, forcing a third set. The Athenas ultimately came away with the win after three sets, defeating Ferrante and Youngberg 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
