Women’s Soccer Blanks WPI at Home, 2-0

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Fresh off a seven-goal game over the weekend, the Wesleyan women's soccer team returned to Jackson Field for another dominant showing as they shutout Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 2-0, on Wednesday evening.

Looking to build upon Saturday's stunning offensive display, the Cardinals hit Jackson Field running, fully controlling the pace of the first 45 minutes. Outshooting the Engineers 6-3 in the first half, the Cardinals' first scoring opportunity came off the left foot of Caty Clements '25. With Katie O'Connell '25 fouled inside the box, Clements stepped up for the penalty kick and sent the ball spiraling low on Engineers goalkeeper Lili Hellerman.

The Cardinals entered the second half with a one-goal lead, but it was the Engineers that drove the offensive pace to restart the game. While the Cardinals were forced back into their own zone, Tori Rideau-Winds '26 and the defense struck down all scoring chances in front of Molly Brumbach '26 to allow the Cardinals to regain momentum. The Cardinals defense held the Engineers to only two shots.

Stefanie Stoj '27 struck with the final goal of the game for the Cardinals midway through the second half. Sweeping possession as the Engineers tried to clear the zone, Maria Utz '27 gave chase down the near line and in, making a gorgeous cross pass inside the box to Stoj at the right goal post.

Brumbach earns her second shutout win of the season, making four saves in goal. Hellerman equaled the save count for the Engineers at the other end.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Sept. 14, when they travel to Hamilton for their first NESCAC matchup of the season with kickoff beginning at 11 a.m.
