BRUNSWICK, Me. – It's tough to dream up a better start for
Amanda Phillips '28 who carded back-to-back 73's over the weekend to shoot a Wesleyan women's golf two-day record 146 at the Bowdoin Invitational. As a team, the Cardinals shot 306 on Sunday, shaving 22 strokes off the team's Round 1 total, to finish in seventh place out of 13 teams in the tournament. The 306 strokes are just one off the team's single-round record.
Phillips was sensational in her collegiate debut, opening with a first round 73 (E) on Saturday that included two birdies and one of just three eagles hit among the 80-player field on in Round 1. Sitting in fourth place on the player leaderboard overnight, Phillips followed with an incredible front 9, shooting 34 (-3) with five birdies, before closing out with seven pars on the back nine to finish with another 73 (E) on Sunday. Her two-day stroke total of 146 (E) is a new team record, eclipsing the previous mark of 150 set last season by
Mia Bardinelli '26 at Vassar. Phillips kept hold of her fourth place standing in the 80-player field after Round 2.
Kayla Howell '26 and Bardinelli both shined on Sunday, moving up 20 and 14 places, respectively, in the player leaderboard from Round 1 to Round 2. Howell opened with an 86 (+13) but followed with a 76 (+3) on Sunday that included four birdies, all of which coming in a seven-hold span. Howell's 76 in Round 2 moved her up 20 spots in the player leaderboard , which was easily the most in the 80-player field. Bardinelli totaled 84 (+11) in Round 1 action before shaving six strokes off her total to close out with a 78 (+5). She birdied twice in each round while both Bardinelli and Howell tied for 34
th place in the player leaderboard.
Another Cardinal who bounced back with a tremendous Round 2 was
Mia Holbrook '27 as the sophomore followed an 86 (+13) in Round 1 with a 79 (+6) in Round 2 for a seven-stroke improvement. Holbrook moved up 10 spots in the player leaderboard to finish in a tie for 44
th place. Her Round 2 featured two birdies and a streak of seven straight pars on the back 9.
Rosie Leonard '26 rounded out the team scoring for Wesleyan with a two-day 174 (+28) as she finished in a tie for 54
th place. Competing as an individual in her collegiate debut,
Rebecca Roegner '28 finished with a 165 (+19) for the weekend.
The Cardinals return to action next weekend with a trip to Middlebury for the George Phinney Classic on Sept. 21-22.
