Box Score BRUNSWICK, ME. – It was a massive weekend for the 2024 NCAA National Runner-up Wesleyan women's tennis team, dominating the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Regional tournament at Bowdoin College.
Jackie Soloveychik '27 takes home the Single A Draw title while
Renna Mohsen-Breen '25 and
Lane Durkin '27 down their own teammates for the Doubles Draw title.
Five Cardinals will now compete at the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia, as the three victors are joined by
Macie Carlos '27 as the Single B Draw runner-up and
Natalia Leroy '28 as Soloveychik's doubles partner. The duo fell to Mohsen-Breen and Durkin in the doubles final.
It was an all-Cardinals final in the doubles flight as both Mohsen-Breen, Durkin and Soloveychik, Leroy reached the title match, now obligated to see who would retain bragging rights. With a 8-5 final score, Mohsen-Breen and Durkin became the first Cardinals to win the doubles flight title since Sophie Henderson and Kristina Yu won in 2019. The 2019 doubles final was also comprised entirely of Cardinals.
On their way to the finals round, Mohsen-Breen and Durkin defeated the reigning NCAA Doubles National Champions in the quarterfinal, downing Babson's Matia Cristiana and Olivia Soffer, 8-3. In the semifinal, Mohsen-Breen and Durkin cleared Middlebury's Sahana Raman and Nina Farhat, 8-4.
Soloveychik and Leroy came away with a 8-7 (5) final over MIT's Jay Lu and Chloe Zheng in the quarterfinal. In the semifinal matchup, Soloveychik and Leroy defeated Claudia Miller and Elisa Von Weiren from Middlebury, 8-3.
In the final matchup of the Single A Draw, Soloveychik again faced Babson's Soffer, and came away victorious in a 6-3, 6-3 final. The 2024 NESCAC Rookie of the Year is the first Cardinal to win the Single A Draw since Serim Jin won in 2019. Rounding through the quarterfinal, Soloveychik defeated Melanie Woodbury of Tufts in three sets, going 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. Soloveychik would go another three sets in the semifinal against Middlebury's Raman, coming away with the 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-3 win.
Carlos made an incredibly deep run in the Single B Draw bracket, reaching the final match against Brandeis' Marie Reyes. Carlos fell to Reyes in a hard fought matchup, going 1-6, 6-3, (10-5). Through the quarterfinal and semifinal, Carlos made quick work of Amherst's Katja Jules Viberg going 6-2, 6-2 before beating Babson's Grace Starcher, 6-0, 6-1.
The Cardinals return to action on Friday, Oct. 11, through Sunday, Oct. 13, when they head to the NEWITT tournament at Smith and Mt. Holyoke.
