Campbell leads Cardinals in 4-1 loss to No. 5 Tufts

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – The Wesleyan men's soccer team fell 4-1 in NESCAC action on Saturday afternoon to No. 5 Tufts University as they were led by Colin Campbell '25 with the second half goal from Jackson Field.

While the Cardinals held for the first 12 minutes of play, the Jumbos broke open the scoring by netting three goals in six minutes. The first by Taylor Feinberg began as a corner kick, the ball making contact with several Jumbos players before Feinberg scored on Mikey Brady's rebound. Goal two was a cross pass inside the box as the Jumbos rushed the Cardinals offensive zone, Liam Gerken taking the initial shot. With Mathis Blanc '26 down, Ethan Feigin had an open corner. Feigin recorded a second goal, scoring the third of the game unassisted from the top of the box.

Prior to the end of the first period, Joshwin Jennings '27 made a solid scoring attempt with an on-target shot from out above the box.

In the 81st minute, the Cardinals caught a break as Campbell's shot angled behind Jumbos goalkeeper, Nicola Antic. Taking the corner, Aiden Londergan '27 angled the shot at the left post where a header venture jostled the ball to Campbell's feet, getting the final boot into the goal. The final goal for the Jumbos was scored by Xavier Canfin from the left post.

Gabriel Gonzalez '28 led the Cardinals in shots on goal, putting three on Antic from the left of the box.

In goal for the Cardinals, Blanc finished the game with two saves. Antic made fives saves for the Jumbos.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 1, when they host WestConn at Smith Field beginning at 7:30 p.m.
