WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – With all eight NESCAC schools competing, the Wesleyan women's golf team landed in a tie for sixth place out of 23 teams at the Williams Invitational over the weekend, which was also good enough for fourth-best among all NESCAC programs.
As a team, the Cardinals finished with a stroke total of 626 (315-311), slotting in behind the champion Wellesley (592) followed by NYU (600), Williams (607), Amherst (609), and Bowdoin (619) to round out the Top 5. Wesleyan's 626 finished in a tie with Hamilton and ahead of Middlebury (630), Bates (644), and Trinity (663).
The player leaderboard saw
Amanda Phillips '28 lead the way for the Cardinals, finishing in a tie for 15
th place overall out of 115 golfers. Phillips shot 72 (+1) in round 1 on Saturday before finishing with an 81 (+10) on Sunday to finish with a 153 (+11) for the weekend. The first-year shined on Saturday with four birdies and 10 pars on the par-71 Taconic Golf Course.
Kayla Howell '26 was next to finish for the Cardinals, as the junior finished in a tie for 31
st place after going low on Sunday with a 73 (+2). Howell shaved 10 strokes off her totals between Saturday's round 1 and Sunday. She had a team-leading seven birdies throughout the weekend including five on Sunday and three over a five-hole stretch on the front 9.
Mia Holbrook '27 was third-best for Wesleyan on the weekend, finishing with a 74 (+3) on Saturday before going for an 83 (+12) on Sunday. Holbrook's round 1 featured four birdies and nine pars as she finished in a tie for 33
rd place on the player leaderboard.
Mia Bardinelli '26 and
Rebecca Roegner '28 completed the field for Wesleyan, as both finished in a tie for 61
st place, improving massively on their scores from round 1 to round 2. Bardinelli took seven strokes off her totals from Saturday to Sunday, starting with an 86 (+15) before firing a 79 (+8) on Sunday that included two birdies. Roegner shaved nine strokes off her totals between rounds, starting with an 87 (+16) on Saturday before going for a 78 (+7) on Sunday in a round that saw her shoot 38 (+2) with seven pars on the back 9 alone.
Wesleyan completes its fall slate of tournaments next weekend at the Hamilton Fall Invitational held at the Rome Country Club from October 5-6.
