Cardinals Fall on the Road at Williams, 4-2

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. – Back on the road after a weekend stint at home, the Wesleyan men's ice hockey team tallied two goals in a 4-2 loss to Williams College on Friday night as they were led by Ethan Davidson '26 and Danny Judge '26 from Williams' Lansing Chapman Rink.

With the halfway point of the first period nearing, a deflected puck off the stick of Davidson gave the Cardinals an early lead to open the scoring. While holding the Ephs down in their own zone, Patrick Morrissey '25 set up the final play on the blueline while parked at the far boards. Nearside, Troy Maldanado '28 was on the receiving end of Morrissey's pass down the line. Maldanado's shot from out above made contact with Davidson centered between the faceoff circles and bounced over the blocker of Cal Sandquist.

The Cardinals' short-lived lead closed when the Eph's scored seven minutes later, Brady Welsch tying the game up at one. Entering the second period, both teams were held without a goal while each putting up eight shots on goal apiece. The Cardinals killed two penalties through the second bout of action with seven blocked shots to show for it
.
Managing three more goals in the third period, the Ephs took their first lead of the evening with three minutes underway thanks to Jake McManus. Less than a minute later Connor Fitzpatrick would give the Ephs a two-goal lead.

Judge cut the score with 11 minutes remaining in regulation to keep the Cardinals in contention. Despite Williams winning the faceoff in the Cardinals' zone, a quick shuffle in the neutral zone sent the puck down around the backside of the goal. Blocking a redirect by an Ephs' defender, Henry Carlson '25 fired on Sandquist and launched the puck off the left post. As Sandquist made the slide in front of the post, Judge wrangled the rebound and scored his second of the season.

Rowen Heithoff would give the Ephs a second two-goal lead with the fourth goal of the night to close out the contest.

Leading the Cardinals from the from the circle, Tanner Kontir '27 won 11 draws to aid the Cardinals' offensive drives.

In goal, Patrick McDevitt '28 finished with 35 saves for the Cardinals. Sandquist finished with 27 in the opposing net to earn the win.
