Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Shane Regan Steals the Show, Leading No. 5 Men’s Basketball Past Hamilton, 73-57

Regan scores 18 of his game-high 25 points in the 2nd half; Wesleyan (17-0) is the only remaining undefeated team in NCAA Div. III

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Locked in a one-point game with just under 15 minutes remaining, Shane Regan '25 went to work and led the Cardinals on a 14-1 run that gave the No. 5 ranked Wesleyan men's basketball team a 73-57 road win over Hamilton on Friday night. With NYU's loss to Emory tonight, Wesleyan (17-0, 3-0 NESCAC) stands alone as the last remaining unbeaten team in the nation. The Continentals drop to 12-3 (1-1 NESCAC) in defeat.

Early foul trouble saw Regan held to just 9:20 first half minutes but the senior guard more than made up for it in the second half wherein he went off for 18 of his game-high 25 points, igniting the Cardinal offense in the extended scoring run that proved the difference in the end.

From the 14:36 mark of the second half when Wesleyan led 43-42, Regan started a streak of four straight Wesleyan possessions ending in points with a pair of free throws followed by a three-point play at the rim and again with a drive down the lane for two. Zach Wolinski '28 hit from deep to give Wesleyan their first double-digit lead of the game before Regan again finished at the rim, giving him nine points in the Cardinals' game-deciding 14-1 run.

Just as Hamilton cut the deficit to 12 with 6:49 remaining, Regan snuffed out any potential comeback with a three-pointer on the next Wesleyan possession followed by another layup that restored a 17-point advantage for the visitors.

Regan's heroics capped what was a stellar day for the Wesleyan starting backcourt. With Regan dealing with first half foul trouble, Jackson Cormier '26 stepped up with 10 points before halftime, shooting 4-of-5 from the floor. Cormier added seven second half points, giving him 17 for the game.

Cormier converted a three-point play and scored on the ensuing possession to make it 24-19 Wesleyan midway through the first half. Wesleyan later stretched their advantage to 32-24 with Nicky Johnson '25 scoring six points in an 8-0 Cardinal run. However, Wesleyan was held scoreless for the final 3:28 of the first half, allowing Hamilton to tie the score at 32 apiece at halftime.

The early stages of the second half saw Hamilton continue their charge, scoring four unanswered to lead 36-32, capping what was a 12-0 run between the two halves.

Regan, Johnson, and Cormier each scored to stymie the run and after Teja Singh hit a three to cut the Continental deficit down to one, it was all Wesleyan for the next 5+ minutes as the Cardinals' 14-1 run paved the way for the double-digit road win.

The Cardinals' starting backcourt of Regan (25), Cormier (17), and Johnson (15) combined to score 57 of the team's 73 total points. Regan shot 9-of-14 overall while Cormier went 7-for-10 from the floor and Johnson hit 6-of-11. The trio combined to shoot 22-for-35 (62.9 percent) on the evening.

Wesleyan won the rebounding battle 39-28 (+11) and dominated the points in the paint (44-22) category. Points off turnovers also swayed heavily in favor of the Cardinals (19-6) as Wesleyan made the most of the 12 Hamilton turnovers in the contest.

The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday afternoon with a 3 PM tip-off at Amherst. A win over the Mammoths would clinch Wesleyan their first Little 3 title since the 2017-18 season.
