Several Personal-Bests Highlight Women’s Track & Field in the NYC Gotham Cup

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Wesleyan women's track & field team saw several Cardinals post personal-bests on the day at the NYC Gotham Cup held at the Ocean Breeze Complex on Friday afternoon. The highest individual finisher on the day was Elanora Smith '27 who posted a fourth place finish out of 30 runners in the 1000m, clocking in at 3:00.67. Also competing in the 1000m was Oona Vali '27 who crossed the line in 3:10.29, recording a new personal-best time that was 7.42 seconds faster than her previous career best in the event.
 
Mia Kjaer '28 recorded a pair of personal-bests as she ran the 60m hurdles in 10.10 seconds while she posted a mark of 2.95m in the pole vault, finishing fourth out of seven competitors in the event.
 
The one mile event saw several Cardinals compete, led by Margaret Stevens '27 who landed in 10th place out of 41 runners with a personal-best time of 5:14.89. Virginia Lessner '28 placed 15th at 5:19.40 while Ellie Green '28 finished 19th with a time of 5:25.16.
 
Another Cardinal who breezed past her personal-best time was Stella Loezos '27 who set a new career-best time in the 800m at 2:23.26, besting her previous best by 3.27 seconds, to finish in eighth place out of 32. Alexandra Weingard '28 joined her in the event and placed 16th with a time of 2:28.86.
 
Juliette Sullivan '27 ran the 200m in 26.11 seconds, finishing in 15th place out of 74 sprinters. Kate DiTullio '28 set a personal-best of 4.85m in the long jump, placing 21st out of 36.
 
The Cardinals fielded three relay teams on the day, with the 4x800m team of Vali, Smith, Green, and Bella Migliore '28 placing third out of eight with a time of 9:52.89. Wesleyan fielded two teams in the distance medley relay, with the squad of Lessner, Stevens, Jane Kakalec '26, and Tenley Flint '27 leading the way in second place at 12:52.44. The other Wesleyan contingent of Genevieve Minard '28, Loezos, Smith, and Weingard finished right behind in third at 12:53.34.
 
Next up for the Cardinals is a return to the Bacon Field House on Saturday, January 25 with the Wesleyan Indoor Invite starting at 10 AM.
