PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Wesleyan wrestling team finished fifth at the 2025 New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Dual Meet Championships on Sunday at Johnson & Wales University.

The duals featured four teams ranked in the Top 25 of the National Wrestling Coaches Association poll (as of January 24), along with 12 other programs from the region. Johnson & Wales rolled to the team title for the eighth consecutive season.

Wesleyan picks up wins against Southern Maine (36-9), Western New England (37-6), and No. 21 Springfield (25-18) en route to the fifth place finish.
Hayden Myers '27 and
Aris Dashiell '25 both went 4-0 to lead the charge on the day for the Cardinals. Myers produced one pin, one major decision, and two wins by decision at 141 while Dashiell landed a pin, tech fall, decision, and sudden victory at 197. In total, Wesleyan produced seven pins, five major decisions, three tech falls, 10 wins via decision and one in sudden victory, totaling 26 wins on the day as a team.

Wesleyan rolled past Southern Mane in its first dual of the day, 36-9, as the Cardinals split the opening four bouts before rattling off six straight wins starting at 157 to land the convincing win.
Chris Hong '27 opened with a 19-4 tech fall win at 125 before Myers took a 4-1 decision victory over Kyle Moore. Southern Maine led 9-8 after four bouts but the Cardinals answered with 28 consecutive points starting with
Shailen Savur '25 landing a tech fall at 157.
CJ Shea '25 pinned Colin Sevigney at 165 while
Andrew Maiorini '25 landed a tight 6-4 decision victory at 174.
Joe Colon '25 continued the wave of momentum with a 10-5 decision win at 184 while Dashiell posted a 15-0 tech fall at 197 and
Will Orso '26 closed the match with a pin at 285.

In the quarterfinal round, Wesleyan matched up with No. 15 Coast Guard, and stayed within range of the Bears for most of the match, trailing 14-9 after six bouts, but Coast Guard landed a pair of tech falls to seal the win. Hong opened with a 4-2 win at 125 and Myers held steady in a 2-0 win over Owen Woolcott. Shea kept his team in the match with a 5-1 win over Tye Barker while Dashiell battled in a 7-4 sudden victory triumph.

In the consolation bracket, Wesleyan pulled away from Western New England early and went on to win 8-of-10 bouts for a 37-6 win over the Golden Bears. Hong started with another decision victory before
Max Martinez '25 and Myers combined for consecutive pins.
Kellen Horst '26 came away with a 18-11 win in his first match of the day at 149 while Savur won in a decision and Shea landed a major decision at 165. Dashiell and Orso finished the match with back-to-back pins to send Wesleyan into the fifth place match.

Wrestling against No. 21 Springfield for fifth place, the Pride took an early 3-0 lead, but the Cardinals used a pin and three straight major decisions to lead 18-3. The rest of the match was back-to-back but the damage had been done and Wesleyan walked away with the 25-18 win. Martinez started the 18-0 Wesleyan run with a pin before Myers, Horst, and Savur combined for three straight major decisions. Maiorini and Dashiell accounted for the remaining wins for the Cardinals.

Wesleyan will rematch with Springfield in Middletown on Saturday at Noon in a dual meet held in Bacon Field House.
