MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – It was tough sledding all afternoon for the Wesleyan women's basketball team who fell to Williams 60-44 on Saturday from Silloway Gymnasium. Wesleyan loses their third straight, falling to 4-7 on the season, while the Ephs improve to 8-3.

Turnovers plagued the Cardinals from the start, as Wesleyan committed 18 turnovers in the first half and 29 for the game, which led to a 23-5 advantage for Williams in points off turnovers. The Ephs also held the Cardinals to a 1-for-10 showing from three-point range in the contest.

Both teams struggled offensively in the first quarter as the two sides combined for just 19 points while shooting a combined 5-for-30 from the floor.

Williams began to take hold of the game in the second quarter, scoring the first four points and later going on a 9-0 run to flip a one-point deficit into a 22-14 lead. The Ephs led by as many as 10 points before
Felicia Fongemie '27 scored twice in the closing minute to make it 25-19 Williams at the half.

The third quarter was an offensive explosion as the teams combined for 42 points in the stanza, just three points less than the combined score totals in the first half. The Cardinals continued their run to end the first half, scoring six unanswered points to start the second half, giving Wesleyan 10 unanswered points to tie the score at 25-25.

The teams traded baskets for the next 6+ minutes before a late quarter run saw the Ephs score 11 points in the final three minutes to lead 47-39 heading into the fourth.
Tori DaCosta '25 scored eight of Wesleyan's 20 points in the frame.

Needing a spark,
Meghan Kirck '28 hit what was the Cardinals' only three-pointer of the game to make it 49-44 Ephs with 7:46 remaining. That, however, was the last points scored by the Cardinals in the game as Williams held Wesleyan scoreless for the final 7:46 of play, going on to win 60-44.

DaCosta led the Cardinals with 14 points and nine rebounds. Fongemie also hit double figures with 12 points.
