Divers Dominate as Cardinals are Edged by Babson, 146-144

BABSON PARK, MA. – The Wesleyan women's swimming and diving team kicked off the 2025 portion of the season with a duel meet at Babson College where they were barely edged out by two points, falling to Babson 146-144. Picking up seven, first-place finishes, Wesleyan was led by Olivia Stevenson '25 and the diving team on Saturday afternoon from Babson's Morse Pool.

Stevenson kicked off the afternoon meet with two first-place victories back-to-back for the Cardinals starting with the 1,000-yard free. Stevenson touched the wall with a final clocked time of 11:19.44. Stevenson wasn't done. In the next event, the 200-yard free, Stevenson took first place again as she came in with a time of 2:06.68. Later in the meet Stevenson swam a 5:33.40 in the 500-yard free to claim victory for a third time.

The 1-meter dive was dominated by the Cardinals as Thisbe Diamond '28 claimed the top prize to lead the divers. Diamond scored a 235.25 and was followed in second place by Ella Hall '28 with a 190.05 and Sophie Taubman '25 scoring a 181.60 for third. Taubman would go on to win the 3-meter dive with a final score of 188.05.

Following Stevenson in the program events, Mia Dezelic '27 was victorious in her first solo event of the afternoon as she swam a final 28.08 in the women's 50-yard back. Dezelic would go on to win the 100-yard back as she finalized her race with a time of 1:00.06.

In the 50-yard and 100-yard breast, Sara Bohacek '26 placed in the top three. In the 50, Bohacek took third with a 32.65 before placing second in the 100 with a final 1:12.35.

Placing second in both the 50-yard fly and the 100-fly, Izzy Paez '26 collected points for the Cardinals with a 1:01.64 in the 100 before swimming a 27.68 in the 50.

Dezelic, Paez, Bohecek and Clara Preisig '25 combined as the Wesleyan 'A' team in the 200-yard medley relay. The squad placed second as they collectively swam a 1:52.65. In the 400-yard free relay, Dezelic, Danielle Eforo '25, Preisig, and Stevenson placed second as the 'A' team, clocking in at 3:47.60.

The Cardinals return to the pool on Wednesday, Jan. 15, when they host Trinity at 4 p.m. in NESCAC action.
