Cardinals Improve to 14-0 for the First Time in Team History

Wesleyan dominates Bridgewater State, 90-46, recording their biggest win of the season

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – History was made on Monday night as the No. 9 ranked Wesleyan men's basketball team handed Bridgewater State a 90-46 defeat to improve to 14-0 for the first time in the program's 122-year history. Wesleyan and NYU are the only two undefeated teams remaining in NCAA Division III men's basketball.

The Cardinals' historic night eclipses the previous record set back in 1911-12 when the Wesleyan squad finished undefeated at 13-0. The 44-point win also signals the largest victory of the season for Wesleyan. The last time the Cardinals recorded a bigger margin-of-victory came back on February 7, 2022, when Wesleyan defeated Williams 97-52 in Williamstown.

For the second straight game, Wesleyan won a game in which the Cardinals never trailed as 15 different players scored in an all-around sensational team performance. In addition, Wesleyan held a Bridgewater State team, which had scored 70+ points in all 11 games coming into play tonight, to its lowest point total of the season.

Four baskets from four different Cardinals from the opening tip set the tone for the night as Wesleyan scored 10 unanswered points in the opening 4+ minutes. The Cardinals continued to hold a comfortable lead of around 10 points before scoring six unanswered to finish off the first half with a 43-27 halftime lead.

Wesleyan scored 43 first half points despite shooting 1-for-12 from three-point range as the Cardinals made the most of their free throw opportunities, going 12-for-12 from the charity stripe. Shane Regan '25 led the team with 10 points while Jackson Cormier '26 added eight points through the first half of play.

The Cardinals put the game away early in the second half, using a 10-0 run to open up a 60-31 advantage with 14:37 remaining. Cormier and Nicky Johnson '25 hit back-to-back three-pointers to start the run before Oscar Edelman '28 and Regan finished with layups in the paint to complete the 10-point swing.

Wesleyan's bench continued to pour it on in the late stages as the Bears were held to just one field goal and five total points in the final 6:52 of play. Anthony Aririguzoh '27 nabbed a steal and uncontested dunk on the other end to highlight the proceedings late while Jacob Pofsky '25 buried a three-pointer.

The Cardinals scored 90+ points for the third time this season while the team shot a season-high 85 perfect from the free throw line (17-for-20), marking their third straight game going 80+ percent from the line.

As a team, Wesleyan grabbed a season-high 58 rebounds and dished out a season-high 25 assists. The last time the Cardinals grabbed 58+ rebounds in a game came on November 11, 2023 when Wesleyan totaled 59 rebounds against Springfield.

Regan finished with 14 points to lead all scorers while he added eight rebounds and two steals in 20 minutes. Cormier finished with 12 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in 17 minutes while Ben Lyttle '27 added six points and seven rebounds.

Sam Pohlman '26 led all scorers off the bench with 10 points while Zach Wolinski '28 added eight and Hunter Fleming '27 scored six in just six minutes.

Wesleyan looks to remain unbeaten with the start of NESCAC play looming this weekend. The Cardinals open league play on Friday at 7 PM with a clash against Little 3 rival Williams.
