Cardinal Offense Explodes, Sweeping Williams to Secure Fourth Straight Little Three Title

Wesleyan hits .442 in a dominant win to secure a seventh Little Three title in the past eight seasons

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – In what was perhaps their strongest performance of the season, the No. 17 ranked Wesleyan volleyball team dominated a Williams team that came into Friday night's match with a 14-2 record, handing the Ephs a convincing three-set sweep with set scorelines of 25-11, 25-20, 25-11. On the heels of Wesleyan's thrilling three-set sweep at Amherst last Saturday, the win over the Ephs clinched a fourth straight Little Three Championship and seventh title in the past eight seasons for the Cardinals.

The Cardinal offense was on fire throughout, hitting .577 (16 kills, 1 error on 26 attempts) in the first set on their way to a .442 attack percentage in the three-set sweep. As a team, Wesleyan finished with 45 kills and seven errors on 86 attempts. That .442 attack percentage is the second-highest for Wesleyan in a match against a NESCAC opponent in team history. The only match featuring a NESCAC opponent wherein the Cardinals posted a better attack percentage was back in 2021 when the Cards hit .468 in a sweep at home against Bates.

In a 22-minute opening set, the Cardinals set the tone right from the onset with a 25-11 first set win that saw Wesleyan hit .577. Wesleyan made their mark early on with three blocks in the first eight Cardinal points scored. After establishing a 13-8 lead, Wesleyan won 10 of the next 11 points to take a commanding lead before closing out the 14-point set win. India Clark '28 went 5-for-5 on her attempts while Siena Steines '28 went 3-for-3 and Sophia Lindus '26 had four kills on seven attempts with two blocks in the set.

The Ephs dug in and gave the Cardinals a close battle in the second set. Wesleyan looked to be on their way to another double-digit set win, going ahead 11-5 in the early stages, only to see Williams go on a 5-0 run to make it a one-point match. The two sides traded points back-and-forth until a critical 4-0 scoring run for Wesleyan gave the Cardinals some breathing room. The Ephs cut the deficit down to 21-19 but Wesleyan was too much, winning four of the final five points to take a 25-20 second set win. Lindus played a vital role in the frame, totaling six kills and four digs in the second set alone.

After denying Williams in the second set, the Cardinals finished off the Ephs with another convincing 25-11 set win to clinch the match in a sweep. Mila Chan '28 went 4-for-5 on her swings with two blocks while Lindus added another four kills to her totals and libero Elliana Moreno '27 posted eight digs in the third set alone. Meanwhile, Williams had more attack errors (10) than kills (seven) in the third set as Wesleyan won 13 of the final 16 points in the frame.

Lindus tied her season-high with 14 kills while she committed just one attack error in 29 attempts, hitting .448 for the match. Clark finished with nine kills and a .500 attack percentage. Chan hit .353 with seven kills, eight digs, and five total blocks. Steines hit .500 with six kills. Katelyn Olin '27 hit .667 with five kills, three blocks, and two digs. Fiona LaCamera '27 had a team-leading six blocks.

Ali Landa '26 dished out 25 assists to go along with five digs. Moreno finished with a match-high 12 digs.

The Cardinals look to extend their seven-game win streak on Saturday with a 2:30 pm match against Middlebury in Silloway Gym.
