Women’s Soccer Falls to Bowdoin in 2-0 Shutout

MIDDLETOWN, CT. -  The Wesleyan women's soccer team welcomed Bowdoin College to Jackson Field on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the seven-woman senior class of 2026, but it was Bowdoin that prevailed in the 2-0 shutout to keep a solid footing over Wesleyan in the NESCAC standings.

Paying tribute to the senior Class of 2026, the Cardinals (7-3-3 overall, 2-3-3 NESCAC) honored goalkeeper Molly Brumbach, Riley Buehler, Stefanie Stoj, Waverly Meyers, Zoey Fagnan, Lily Jebejian, and Tori Rideau-Winds prior to the start of this morning's matchup.

From the jump, the Cardinals held an offensive edge over the Polar Bears (8-3-0 overall, 4-3-0 NESCAC), clearing the on goal shot margin at 25-14. The defense held Bowdoin without a goal through the first 45 minutes of action but without a goal of their own, the Cardinals entered the half at a scoreless draw.

With three minutes underway in the second, the Bears struck with the opening goal of the game. Able to keep the ball in bounds while down low to the right of the goal, Mary Rainey crossed the ball high through the box where Jackie Shores connected with the header goal.

In the 84th minute, the Bears doubled the tally and secured the victory as they were awarded a free kick from out above the box. Kayley Huelett, who led the Bears with four shots on Molly Brumbach, nailed the shot unassisted.

Brumbach finished the game in goal with seven saves. For the Bears, Charlotte Iannone earned the win with 11 saves.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Oct. 25, when they head to Colby for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
