WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wesleyan women's crew team successfully defended last year's first place finish at the Wormtown Chase with another first place result from the varsity 8 on Saturday morning on Lake Quinsigamond.
Racing in the women's collegiate 8+ with a total of 22 boats in the competition, the Cardinals' varsity 8 took the top spot with a time of 17:27.2. That time was 8.3 seconds faster than the runner-up Holy Cross and more than 10 seconds faster than third place Wellesley.
The Cardinals continued to show well on the day as the 2
nd varsity 8 claimed the fifth-fastest time on the day at 18:22.6. That time was the fastest of any 2V8 (B boats) from any of the schools in the competition.
Wesleyan rounded out the day with a 3
rd varsity 8 taking 14
th place overall (19:31.8), third-fastest among 3V8 crews (C boats) in the field. The Cardinals also took part in the novice 4+ and Wesleyan's boat took first place at 22:48.9.
This regatta concludes the fall season for the Cardinals who now shift their focus onto preparing for the spring season.
