No. 24 Volleyball Dominates Trinity in Three-Set Sweep on the Road

Cardinals improve to 4-0 in NESCAC play and 8-0 playing away from home in 2025

HARTFORD, Conn. – The No. 24 Wesleyan volleyball team did very little wrong on Friday night in a dominating sweep of Trinity (25-19, 25-11, 25-17) in the Oosting Gymnasium. With the win, Wesleyan improves to 11-1 (4-0 NESCAC) and 8-0 playing away from home this season while the Bantams drop to 9-5 (1-3 NESCAC).

Setting the tone right from the jump, the Cardinals won six unanswered points to kick off the match and continued to lead by a comfortable margin before the Bantams cut the deficit to just one at 18-17. Four straight Trinity attack errors followed, giving Wesleyan breathing room, which they then used to finish off a 25-19 first set win. The Cardinals won that opening set despite hitting just .059 with six kills on 34 attempts, as Trinity had more attack errors (11) than kills (10) in the opening frame.

The second set saw the two sides trade points early before Sophia Lindus '26 served up a 6-0 run that stretched a 10-7 Wesleyan lead into a 16-7 advantage. Four unanswered points for Wesleyan, capped by a block from Fiona LaCamera '27 and Keira Sweetnam '27, finished off a 25-11 win. Wesleyan hit much better in the second set, totaling 14 kills with three errors on 42 swings, while Elliana Moreno '27 was at her very best, recording 13 digs in the second set alone.

Looking to close out the match, the Cardinals did so in style, recording one of their best offensive sets of the season with the team hitting .410 on 17 kills and one error in 39 attempts. Four Cardinals had at least three kills in the frame as Wesleyan overpowered the Bantams in a 25-17 match-clinching win. Trinity held a 6-4 lead early in the set before Wesleyan rattled off nine unanswered points to lead 13-6. Trinity would only get to within four points of the Cardinals in the remainder of the match as Wesleyan cruised to the win.

Moreno led the defensive charge as the junior libero recorded a career-high 27 digs, averaging nine per set in the sweep.

Offensively, Wesleyan saw the trio of Lindus, Mila Chan '28, and Siena Steines '28 combine for 28 of the Cardinals' 37 kills in the match. Lindus had 10 kills with no errors on 26 swings, hitting .385 for the match, to go along with six digs. Chan went for 10 kills and nine digs and Steines finished with eight kills on 16 attempts. Setter Ali Landa '26 recorded a double-double with 15 assists and 10 digs.

Wesleyan is back on the road for a Sunday afternoon non-conference tilt at NYU.
