Field Hockey Earns Berth into NCAA Tournament, Hosts Marywood on Wednesday

Cardinals advance to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan field hockey team earned an at-large berth into the 2025 NCAA Division III Tournament, as announced on Sunday evening, and will host the Marywood University Pacers on Wednesday, November 12 on Hicks Field. Game time is set for 6:00 PM.

The Cardinals head into the NCAA Tournament armed with a 14-4 record, already breaking the team's single-season wins record, and having just made a run to the NESCAC title game for the first time in team history. Head Coach Christine Kemp's group went 7-3 in NESCAC regular season play, earning the four-seed for the NESCAC Tournament where they defeated Williams 2-1 in the Quarterfinals and landed an upset 2-0 win at top-seed Tufts in the Semifinals before falling to three-seed Bates in the Championship game by a score of 2-0.

The selection for the Cardinals is the second in team history, while marking the second consecutive year that Wesleyan is in the NCAA field. Just last season, Wesleyan defeated Ithaca 2-0 at home in the First Round for the Cardinals' first-ever NCAA Tournament win.

Marywood won the Atlantic East Conference Championship for the second straight year, defeating Neumann 3-0 in the title game. This marks the Packers' third appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Pacers lost to Johns Hopkins 6-0 in the First Round last year and previously lost 1-0 to FDU-Florham in the team's first-ever appearance in 2019. Dariane Jones, the 2025 Atlantic East Tournament MVP, leads the attacking unit for the Pacers.

The winner of the Wesleyan vs. Marywood game travels to top four national seed Babson for the NCAA Sweet 16 on Saturday, November 15. At Babson, the winner of Wesleyan vs. Marywood will face the winner of Hamilton vs. SUNY Geneseo on Saturday at 2 PM. The winner of the Bowdoin vs. Scranton First Round game will face Babson on Saturday at 11 AM. The NCAA Elite 8 (Quarterfinal Round) will be played on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1 PM at Babson.

A total of 28 teams earned bids, 18 slots for automatic qualifiers and 10 at-large bids. Four semifinalists will advance to the Robin Sheppard Field in Hartford, Connecticut where Trinity College will host the final two rounds of the NCAA Tournament on November 21-23.
