MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Stepping onto the court for the first time as Cardinals, a contingent of first-years powered the Wesleyan men's squash team to a 6-3 win over Brown on Saturday afternoon from the Rosenbaum Squash Center.
Among the six match wins on the day for the Cardinals, five were won by first-years and all five were 3-0 sweeps in favor of Wesleyan. Zach Idinopulos '26 also triumphed at #8 in a 3-0 sweep (11-7, 11-3, 11-3) to hand the Cardinals the 6-3 win over their Ivy League counterpart.
Even though five first-years won in 3-0 sweeps, all of them had to battle to take down their opponent as all five wins required 22+ minutes to finish.
Dominic Wilson '29 required 41 minutes and many extended rallies to defeat Isaac Dahan at #4 in a 11-8, 11-9, 11-8.
Matthyaz Williams '29 won a pair of close games 11-8, 12-10 before earning a comfortable 11-5 win in the third game to complete the sweep at #5.
Zach Lu '29 triumphed at #6 with a 11-5, 11-7, 11-5 victory over Archer Gould,
Harrison Tillinghast '29 defeated Tim Cassidy 11-5, 11-1, 11-6 at #3, and
Finn Goodson '29 took down Andrew Herring 11-4, 11-2, 11-9 at #7.
Arjun Somani '29 nearly earned a win his debut, going the distance against Sean Magee at #2, but ultimately falling in five games (11-8, 6-11, 5-11, 11-5, 4-11).
Luke Wilson '29 was taken down in four games at #9 in his debut (9-11, 7-11, 11-2, 7-11).
Wesleyan is back in action on Sunday at 10:30 AM with a match against Vassar in Middletown.
