Men’s Hockey Suffers 6-1 Loss to No. 9 Hamilton in Home Opener

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Embarking on the first homestand of the season, the Wesleyan men's hockey team returned to Spurrier-Snyder Arena after a weekend on the road to host No. 9 Hamilton College on Friday night, falling 6-1 in NESCAC action as the team was led by Danny Markham '28.

Facing the third NESCAC opponent of the season, the Cardinals (1-2-0 overall, 1-2-0 NESCAC) fell to an early deficit in the first period, down two goals through the opening 13 minutes of game action. The Continentals (3-0-0 overall, 2-0-0 NESCAC) issued goals to Noah Liebl and Devon de Vries before heading into the second period.

The Continentals opened the middle period on the powerplay, awarded the man-advantage as the Cardinals were called for a slashing minor but saw their lead cut in half. Markham, the driving force of the offense, stripped the Continentals of the puck as they attempted to clear the zone at their own blue line and hit the top left corner of the goal with the short-handed goal. The Cardinals shutdown four Continental power plays in the second period, killing a 4-on-3 advantage while Jack Bosco '26 rang a saved breakaway attempt on goaltender Aksel Reid.

Following Markham's goal, the Continentals saw two more tallies from Luke Tchore and Clarence Beltz in the second before Ryan Sordillo and Jacob Ierfino closed out the game in the third period. Reid earned the win in goal with 17 saves.

Markham finished the evening with a shot in all three periods, while Hayden Hanes '27 finished with two shots, two blocks, and picked up eight draw wins from the circle. In goal, Patrick McDevitt '28 finished with 30 saves.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Nov. 22, when they host Amherst at 3 p.m.
