MIDDLETOWN, CT. - Led by freshmen
Caroline Humber '29 with her first career goal as a Cardinal, the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team fell in NESCAC action, 4-1, to No. 4 Middlebury College on Saturday night from Spurrier-Snyder Arena.
Striking first with just over 10 minutes of action underway, the Panthers tallied a goal from Avery McInerny. The one-goal lead was short lived as the Cardinals tied the match up at one nearly two minutes later. Humber stripped the Panthers of the puck in the neutral zone and put one away behind Sophia Will unassisted as she drove down the middle.
Early in the second period the Cardinals found themselves down an attacker after an elbowing call, the penalty resulted in a power-play goal for the Panthers. McInerny scored her second of the game and gave the Panthers a second one-goal lead. Jocelyn Acosta would score unassisted later in the period.
The Panthers closed out the match with a goal from Caroline Thomas in the third period, leaving the Cardinals with the three-goal deficit. Will finished the evening with 22 saves in goal, earning the win.
Caroline Kee '26 led the Cardinals from the faceoff, clearing 13 draw wins while
Lilly Place '29 won 10. Kee also recorded two shots on goal. In net,
Jenna Guglielmi '27 made 33 saves.
The Cardinals close out the weekend series with Middlebury on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 3 p.m.
